Take Stock in Children is Now Accepting Applications!
Current 7th and 8th grade students can apply now through May 15, 2023 to become a Take Stock in Children mentee.
Students in our program will attend an induction ceremony and take a pledge of commitment to stay in school, maintain good grades and make positive life choices throughout the remainder of their high school years. We want students to stay motivated and engaged to get the most out of their education.
Students will be paired with a Hillsborough Education Foundation College Success Coach during the school year who will help keep them on the path to academic success. They will also be matched with an adult mentor who will meet with them at least twice a month (preferably weekly) to provide guidance and support.
Once the student has met the program requirements and graduates from high school, they will receive a minimum of a 2-year Florida Prepaid Scholarship.
Celebrating National Volunteer Month
Hillsborough Education Foundation couldn’t do what we do without the help of or amazing volunteers! Celebrate National Volunteer Month with us by encouraging your mentee to engage in community service.

Mentor of the Month
April’s Mentor Spotlight is shining on Mercy Almagner!
When asked why she became a mentor, Mercy said:
“I learned about TSIC from a former co-worker, a kind woman who volunteers a lot of her time to help others. We had both been part of an in-person mentoring program at an elementary school, but the program stopped once the COVID-19 pandemic started. My co-worker told me that HEF offered remote volunteering opportunities. I signed up immediately because HEF gave me the opportunity to continue making a difference, while staying safe at the height of the pandemic. I’ve remained in the program because it remains convenient, and a lot of support is offered to mentors!”
