Mentoring is More Than Just Academic Support

Mentorship programs in Tampa Bay are about more than just academics. When our students know they are supported and have access to the right resources, success starts to feel like a possibility, not something out of reach. Through nonprofit volunteer opportunities in Tampalike mentoring a student, you can help be part of that change.

Help Change A Student’s Life

Mentorship programs in Tampa Bay may seem small or not enough to make a difference, but consistently showing up for a student can make all the difference in their lives and academic success. Even with something as simple as 30 minutes a week, showing up for a young person consistently builds their confidence and helps them feel capable of achieving their goals.

Over time, this consistent support can lead to stronger motivation, decision-making, and overall academic success. At Hillsborough Education Foundation, our nonprofit volunteer opportunities in Tampa not only support students, they create lasting change for our community as a whole.

Why Mentors Matter to HEF

Outside of the classroom, there are many students battling challenges. Whether family, personal, or financial, these obstacles can make it feel increasingly hard to care about school or can make the importance of succeeding academically feel small.

When a student feeling overwhelmed with these problems gains a mentor on their team, the support, encouragement, and guidance can make graduating and working towards a successful future feel possible again. Even if it’s just one person, having someone believe in them can truly make all the difference.

What HEF Mentors Do

Take Stock in Children Mentors act as positive role models for the students in our community. By taking the time to show support with encouragement and guidance, our students are able to remain motivated, confident, and focused on their futures.

Take Stock in Children Mentors typically meet one-on-one with their mentee several times each month, typically for 30 minutes per week. During each session, mentors assist with tasks such as helping students set academic goals for themselves, talk through challenges in their lives, and even help prepare for college and other future successes.

No teaching experience is required to become a mentor. All it takes is someone who is willing to listen, stay consistent with meetings, and show their student care. With the help of skilled student advocates, mentors are never alone in the process. Together, mentors and their advocates are able to give students the support they need to thrive
