Students Need Access to Digital Resources
At-risk students in our community are at risk of falling even further behind in their studies due to a lack of access to the internet and the devices they need to stay connected to online educational resources and complete assignments at home.
To support these students, the Hillsborough Education Foundation relies on referrals from school counselors, teachers, and administrators to identify those in need.
Through HEF’s Digital Equity initiative, families receive a computer to keep, one year of Wi-Fi access, digital skills coaching, and ongoing support—ensuring every student has the tools and connectivity to fully engage in their learning.
Bridging the Digital Divide
Many students and their families not only lack internet access but also face language barriers and limited digital literacy skills.
When finances are tight, internet service is often one of the first expenses families cut, leaving students from lower-income households more likely to be disconnected.
The Digital Divide—the gap in digital access across socio-economic, racial, and ethnic groups—has had devastating consequences, contributing to lower graduation rates and significant learning loss. This gap continues to widen for underserved students who lack the same resources and supplemental learning opportunities as their peers.
