Mentoring a Student
Becoming a mentor is one of the most impactful ways you can volunteer. Mentors are paired with students to provide guidance, support, and encouragement, helping them navigate academic and personal challenges. Through building a trusting relationship, mentors can help students achieve their full potential and set them on a path to success both in school and in life.
Assisting at the Teaching Tools Resource Center
Our Teaching Tools Resource Center is a cornerstone of our support for teachers and students in Hillsborough County. Since its inception, it has provided over $33 million in free school supplies and resources to students and teachers in need.
Volunteers play a critical role in this program by helping teachers check in and out for shopping, stocking shelves, sorting donations, packaging products, and packing online supply orders for shipping. Last year alone, volunteers devoted 5,245 hours to our resource center and helped make a significant impact on classrooms throughout our community.
Reviewing Scholarship Applications
Another impactful volunteering opportunity in Tampa with HEF is helping us review senior scholarship applications. These volunteers work with our staff to help identify students who have the potential to thrive in their post-secondary education. You can help to ensure that scholarships are awarded fairly and effectively, and that deserving students receive the financial support they need to pursue their goals after graduation.
Event Assistance
Hillsborough Education Foundation hosts a variety of events throughout the year, and there are ample volunteer opportunities before and during them.
