University of Tampa to showcase Hillsborough County Scholastic Art & Writing Awards

(February 19, 2020) TAMPA – Hillsborough Education Foundation and Hillsborough County Public Schools will host the 2020 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards presented by Suncoast Credit Union. The reception and awards ceremony will honor some of Hillsborough County’s most talented young artists and writers whose work will be exhibited at the University of Tampa’s Scarfone/Hartley Gallery.

The exhibit, which will be open to the public March 6th through March 13th, will feature art and writing pieces by the local middle and high school students participating in the 2020 Hillsborough County Region Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.

On March 5th, regional and national award winners will be honored at an invitation-only awards event on the University of Tampa campus. Attendees will have the opportunity to view the students’ work during a 4:45 p.m. reception in the Scarfone/Hartley Gallery, followed by a ceremony at 7 p.m. in the nearby Falk Theatre. Established in 1923, the awards program is the longest-running, most prestigious recognition program for creative teens in the United States and is the largest source of scholarships for young artists and writers. The awards have an impressive roster of past winners, including Andy Warhol, Truman Capote, Richard Avedon, John Baldessari and Robert Redford.

Category winners of the Hillsborough County awards will be submitted to the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers in New York City and will receive an opportunity to move on to compete at the national level at Carnegie Hall on June 4, 2020.
