(February 24, 2023) Tampa, FL – Hillsborough Education Foundation and Hillsborough County Public Schools are proud to host the 2023 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. We are excited to announce that this year’s ceremony, honoring students as regional and national award winners, will once again be held in person. Members of the media are invited to attend.

This year, there were 1,288 student submissions and the regional judges had the tough task of narrowing them down to 275 art awards and 87 writing awards. Award recipients will be recognized during the ceremony by representatives from Hillsborough Education Foundation, Hillsborough County Public Schools, Hillsborough County School Board and event sponsors, including Suncoast Credit Union and Ringling College of Art + Design.
The works from Hillsborough County’s 81 Gold Key winners will be submitted to the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers. Students will have the opportunity to compete at the national level and be recognized during a ceremony at Carnegie Hall in New York City in June.
“We are proud to partner with the district to showcase the talents of our young artists and writers and give them a platform to express their creativity on a local and national scale,” said Hillsborough Education Foundation CEO Kim Jowell. “It is important to celebrate their work that embodies critical, analytical and conceptual thinking and develops skills that will assist them throughout their education and career.”
Members of the media and the public are invited to enjoy the award-winning art and writing pieces from local middle and high school students on Exhibition, hosted by The University of Tampa.

This year marks 100 years of the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. It is the longest-running, most prestigious recognition program for creative students in grades 7-12 in the United States and is the largest source of scholarships for young artists and writers.
